- Transportation – In 2015, voters in Phoenix approved Transportation 2050 making a strong statement for the importance of transit improvements. The .7 percent sales tax, which became effective on January 1, 2016 provides dedicated funding for bus transportation, light rail and street improvements.
- Affordability – Known for its year-round sun and warm temperatures, the affordability index in the Greater Phoenix area continues to rise. We’ll explore unique ways the community is tackling the affordability crisis in the region.
- Regional Talent Pipeline – Phoenix aims to have a strong link between industry and education. With a mixture of public, charter and private schools, the Phoenix area has a high success rate with educating their population.
- Innovation – Arizona is ranked as one of the most innovative states in the nation. With four Fortune 500 companies calling Phoenix home and the second largest Intel location in the country, Phoenix is also home to many avionics and mechanical facilities. Known as the Silicon Desert, the Phoenix area offers a rich environment for startups with Arizona State University. With the announcement of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, innovation will continue to grow in the region.
- Economic Development – The Phoenix area has become a hot spot for tech companies. With a low cost of doing business, a high quality of life and a strong talent pool, the Phoenix region is a draw for many companies.
Leadership Study Mission: A History
Leadership Study Mission is the Chamber’s annual community development initiative that brings together over 100 leaders from the Nashville region to explore best practices in cities facing similar challenges and opportunities. This immersive experience is more than just a trip; it’s a journey towards Nashville’s future, offering fresh perspectives on community priorities and inspiring actionable solutions.
Successes that have been attributed to these visits include:
- Creation of a 10-county Transit Alliance of Middle Tennessee
- Creation of a 10-county Mayors’ Caucus
- Creation of the Nashville Downtown Partnership and central business improvement district (CBID)
- Creation of downtown bicycle and horse patrols
- Early awareness and support for:
- Moving Forward – a regional transit solution
- Music City Center
- Schermerhorn Symphony Center
- Nissan Stadium
- Mayor’s Office of Neighborhoods
