Who is Tech Impact and what should we know about you?
Tech Impact is a nonprofit organization that leverages technology for social impact. Among our many offerings, we provide workforce development programs to youth 18-26. The program, which is free of charge to the participants, trains those without college degrees for careers in technology. We are in the process of launching that program in Nashville and will begin offering this in February, 2025.
What has been the most valuable aspect of your Chamber membership?
We value our membership with the chamber. They enable the connections in the community that are crucial to launching a new program. Further, they are focused on the economic development of the city. They stand out as a leader in evaluating the growing job market and tech sector, which are important to our organization as we launch our workforce development program.
What is unique about your business that makes you stand out?
We are a nonprofit organization. Our entire purpose is to serve the community. We leverage funding from corporations, foundations and government entities in order to provide our training programs at no fee to our participants. We have graduated over 1000 students through our programs and are excited to bring this unique opportunity to Nashville.
Our program targets young people (18-26) who are interested in a career in technology. Specifically, those that do not have a college degree but do have a GED or high school diploma. Nearly 80% of our program participants are women and people of color, which helps us to fulfill our mission to diversify the tech community in Nashville.
Can you share why the Nashville region is a good place to do business?
Through a pro bono research project by Barclays, Nashville was identified as a strong expansion site for our program. We immediately became a chamber member and a member of the Nashville Technology Council. These organizations have been crucial to connecting us to the business and philanthropic community in Nashville. Our program will help to address youth unemployment rates and add to the diversity of the tech community.
What do you want to be known for in the business community?
We want to be known as the nonprofit organization that is helping to develop underrepresented talent and helping to diversify the technology community in Nashville, providing training programs that lead to careers in technology.
