Senior Research Analyst

Position Description / Responsibilities

Serve as a senior analyst on a team that manages a wide range of research initiatives and projects
in one of Middle Tennessee’s leading research and information organizations. The research
analyst develops, organizes, implements, and uses data and systems for a wide array of high impact
research studies and reports used in the Nashville region by business, elected and
government officials and other community stakeholders. Research involves a broad cross-section
of demographic, economic and community topics and a variety of research processes, methods,
sources, and tools. The research analyst interacts daily with internal and external customers to
provide the highest quality research that demonstrates rigor, ingenuity, and innovation.

Essential Functions

  • Perform data collection, analysis, and communication of findings on economic and business
    indicators, demographic data, and a wide range of community data as needed to meet the
    work plan of the Research Center and to satisfy requests/inquiries for research from Chamber
    clients, customers, and stakeholders. Required to exercise sound judgment and discretion in
    providing appropriate materials or assistance, especially where confidential information is
    involved.
  • Use various data sources, tools of analysis, and demonstrate innovation as needed to
    accomplish research output.
  • Provide research as needed for Economic Development marketing programs and other
    Economic Development inquiries as these arise.
  • Provide project-specific research to internal Chamber theaters and programs as identified by
    the Vice President of Research, the Chief Policy & Livability Officer and the Chamber’s CEO.
  • Assist with activities of the Chamber Business Conditions Council including meeting logistics.
  • Establish, implement, and evaluate internal response/evaluation systems to assess whether
    research is provided in a timely and accurate manner to internal and external clients.
  • Maintain an active interest in advancing in skills and knowledge through reading and learning
    from professional materials and involvement with national, state and local professional
    research organizations in the community and regional research field.

Position Requirements

Knowledge/Education and Experience Required:

  • Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in a
    field of study useful and relevant for community or economic research.
  • Candidate must exhibit substantive on-site experience in an academic, work, or intern
    setting that is suitable for the research work of the Nashville Chamber.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with data from
    primary and secondary research that exhibits commitment to professional research in
    demographic, economic or community field.
  • Candidate must have experience in work settings that demonstrate commitment to high
    quality output and results comparable to those required by research at the Nashville Chamber.

SUPERVISION: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT LEADERSHIP AND/OR PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES: Project management is a consistent and on-going aspect of this position. The senior research
analyst works closely with the VP of Research in developing and implementing projects, specific products and initiatives including, but not limited to, developing and leading projects and
initiatives, selecting participants and recruiting volunteers as needed, making assignments, developing timelines and budgets, identifying deliverables and tracking performance and results.
The senior research analyst also will be asked to present information to a non-technical audience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically sitting at a desk or table.
  • Occasionally lifting light objects (less than 24 pounds).
  • Intermittently walking, standing, bending and carrying.
  • Requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and
    observance of fire regulations.
  • Manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity needed.
  • Some repetitive motion is involved.
  • Work is performed in an office or computer room.
  • Work may require visits to businesses, elected officials, economic and Chamber partners in
    the Middle Tennessee region, and other research partners as needed.
  • Position requires travel out of the Middle Tennessee region less than five percent of the time.
