Tell us about yourself?
As President and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas, I lead our network of 16 hospitals and more than 250 care sites across Middle Tennessee alongside several key strategic partners. I am focused on cultivating a culture of trust and collaboration—ensuring that physicians, clinicians, associates, and community partners work together to deliver exceptional care and put our decisions in the larger context to serve the greater good.

Tell us about your business/industry?
Nashville is the healthcare city. Ascension Saint Thomas was founded here in Nashville over 125 years ago with a mission to serve the healthcare needs of our neighbors. Today, more than 500 healthcare companies have operations in Nashville that impact the healthcare landscape locally, nationally, and internationally. The Nashville healthcare industry contributes an overall economic benefit of $68 billion and more than 333,000 jobs to the local economy annually according to a recent study from the Nashville Health Care Council.

What should we know about you?
Healthcare is an essential foundation of a thriving society, and I am honored to serve a greater cause. While technology and innovation is advancing care, accessibility and affordability remain pressing challenges. In the U.S., healthcare spending accounts for nearly 18% of GDP, yet our health outcomes lag behind other developed nations. Addressing this disconnect requires collaboration, smarter investments, and a commitment to being on the right side of history in making community-centered decisions. As a hub for healthcare innovation, Nashville has the opportunity—and the responsibility—to lead by example.

How did you get to your current position?
My journey in healthcare began working at a physician practice in my hometown, and was lucky to grow up professionally in an environment with a combination of being within an innovative culture and supported by very sincere mentors. I took on leadership roles of greater responsibility over time. That experience shaped my understanding of frontline care and led me to Ascension, where I found a purpose-driven organization aligned with my vision for healthcare.

What value do you see in Chamber involvement?
The Chamber plays a vital role in fostering economic growth and shaping policies that benefit all Nashvillians. As a healthcare leader, I believe we must integrate health and wellness into economic conversations. A thriving economy depends on a healthy workforce, and investing in health today will drive Nashville’s continued success for generations to come.

What is your leadership style? How does that motivate yourself and your team?

What makes you proud to live and work in the Nashville area?
Nashville’s culture of collaboration and innovation makes it an exciting place to live and work. The city offers a thriving environment of healthcare talent, a growing economy, a strong sense of community, and a vibrant arts and music scene. Middle Tennessee is also home to incredible nature and recreational resources, making it a great place to appreciate natural beauty and raise a family.

What is your perspective on growth in Nashville?
Nashville’s rapid economic growth is impressive, but sustaining this success requires addressing critical health infrastructure. Chronic conditions and mental health issues can hinder productivity and quality of life, impacting our city’s long-term prosperity. Prioritizing public health is essential—not just for individual well-being but for the continued strength of our workforce, economy, and communities. We must consider the indirect health implications in all policies and incorporate physicians and health professionals in guiding our approach to development and planning for the future.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
I enjoy exploring the incredible diversity of food along Nolensville Avenue—you can find flavors from nearly every continent. Nashville’s restaurant scene is a reflection of the city itself: dynamic, welcoming, and full of character.
